Intensive classes are offered in the study of the craft of counterpoint. These classes are not style-based. Rather, the classes are designed for the study and perfection of contrapuntal principles fundamental to the control of all Western musical styles.

Level I begins with the study of the four basic species of counterpoint. Exercises concentrate on the concepts of metrics, melodic control, imitation, and non-chord tone usage. Level II explores various forms of polyphonic imitation, and Level III focuses on aspects of writing the Fugue. Ultimately, the classes come to understand a set of style-blind aesthetics which apply to the counterpoint of all Western music.
