Originally from Mineola, TX, Lane Harder is a composer and teacher currently on faculty at the Peabody Institute and Johns Hopkins University. He holds masters degrees in composition and music theory pedagogy from Peabody where he was a student of Chris Theofanidis.
Lane currently serves on faculty and as Program Coordinator for the European American Musical Alliance Summer Composition Program in Paris, France. Lane spent eleven years as a freelance performer, composer, and teacher in the Dallas area where he served as Assistant Director of Music at Jesuit College Preparatory School, performed with numerous regional orchestras, and recorded three cd’s of music on Gasparo Records.
As a composer, Harder has received awards from ASCAP, NACUSA, PAS, Voices of Change, TMTA, and The Florence Gould Foundation. Recent performances have been by The Bachanalia Chamber Orchestra of New York, flutist April Clayton, soprano Carolyn Pelley, Peabody Opera Theatre, and percussion ensembles of Indiana University, Arizona State University, Rutgers University, University of Kansas, University of Houston, Southern Methodist University, Brigham Young University, McGill University, and the University of North Texas. His music is published by KPP and recorded on Albany and Gasparo Records.
His Bachelor of Music degree is from Southern Methodist University where he was a University Scholar, and he spent a year of resident study jointly at Kings College London and The Royal Academy of Music.
