Program Director, composer, and pianist, Dr. Lasser has been a member of the faculty of The Juilliard School since 1994, where he teaches counterpoint, harmony, and analysis.
Philip Lasser holds a B.A. summa cum laude from Harvard College, an M.A. from Columbia University and a DMA from Juilliard where he studied with David Diamond. After graduating from Harvard College, Dr. Lasser was awarded a scholarship to study composition with Narcis Bonet and piano with Gaby Casadesus in Paris.
Dr. Lasser's works are performed by soloists and chamber groups throughout the world. Philip Lasser's music has been performed by the Seattle Symphony, Gerard Schwarz and The New York Chamber Symphony and by such artists as Elizabeth Futral, Simone Dinnerstein, Margo Garrett, Lucy Shelton, Cho-Liang Lin, Zuill Bailey, Brian Zeger, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger and Sasha Cooke.
Philip Lasser' s works have been broadcast on network television as well as featured on the classical radio station of the New York Times, WQXR Reflections From the Keyboard with host David Dubal and Robert Sherman’s The Listening Room. Dr. Lasser’ s works have also been broadcast on NPR, and XFM Hong Kong radio RTHK.
His commissions include Circle of Dreams - a symphonic work - for Maestro Gerard Schwarz and The New York Chamber Symphony, choral works for the 92nd St. Y., numerous works for The Bachanalia Chamber Orchestra, The Manchester Music Festival, the String Orchestra of New York (SONYC), and cellist Zuill Bailey. His Prelude and Double Fugue premiered with the Seattle Symphony under Maestro Schwarz' baton. Dr. Lasser's works are published by Editions Max Eschig in Paris and by
Rassel Editions in New York.
